Class – Introduction to Orienteering

December 16, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free
Orienteering map and compass

Join us for a FREE introductory class on orienteering – the cross country navigation race with map and compass!

Learn all the basics of this exciting sport like compass usage, how to read the map, navigating through unknown terrain, and how the symbols and clue description sheets work. We will cover everything from how to dress, what to expect at your first orienteering meet, how the timing system works, and the ever-popular subject of how to get “un-lost!”

Orienteering is a great activity for “ages 8 to 80,” and is considered the sport of a lifetime. It’s a challenging combination of brains and brawn, where your speed is only as good as your ability to navigate well, make good route choices, recover from errors, and keep your focus!

Don’t let “sport” fool you, though, this activity is for non-competitive participants as well! We have family groups, dog walkers, stroller pushers, and kids on bikes participating at every event.

While it’s not required for the class, bringing a compass is a great idea. If you don’t have one, you can use a free smartphone compass app for the exercises we’ll be doing during the presentation.

Bring your friends, and we’ll see you at Foot RX Running – Asheville for this FREE course in the sport of orienteering – the map and compass race!
