O’Rienteering Meet 2021

To celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day, we’re excited to be hosted again by the Lookout Brewing Running Club on Sunday, March 14, 2021 for a unique “O’Rienteering” experience — a three-part stage race!

Please read this message in its entirety, as this race is a little different.

This meet is open to ALL! You do NOT have to be a member of the running club to participate!

The Start/Finish location will be at Lookout Brewing Company in Black Mountain. Starts will be staggered, beginning at 12:00 pm, with the last possible start at 1:00 pm. Courses will close at 4:00 pm. When you finish your course, enjoy the excellent atmosphere of Lookout Brewing, one of our favorite local establishments!

How it works:  You will begin with the map for Stage 1, which reveals the first few controls through town leading to Black Mountain Veterans Park, less than a mile away through town. The route between the last “Town” control and the first “Park” control will be casually marked in flour on the ground, ensuring you arrive to the first Map Exchange where you will receive the map for Stage 2, which has the next set of controls located inside the park. Similar to the outbound trip, there will be a flour-marked route from the last “Park” control to the second Map Exchange. There, you will receive the map for Stage 3, with the final set of controls to be found on the way back to Lookout Brewing. You must complete all three stages without error to be listed as a finisher.

There will also be a classic Beginner Course that is NOT TIMED which will remain in town and be of much shorter distance. If you wish to do the Beginner Course, please be sure to select that from the ticket options as it will not include a finger stick rental.

We will be using SPORTident timing for the stage race. If you have your own finger stick, please bring it and use the appropriate discount code at checkout to get a $5 discount.

This is a FAMILY FRIENDLY event and leashed children and pets are welcome!

DIFFICULTY

Last year’s winning time in the Stage Race was 43 minutes. Last year’s slowest time in the Stage Race was 143 minutes.

This year we are aiming for the same difficulty and distance, which for the Stage Race is in the neighborhood of 5 to 8 miles. The Beginner Course will be in the 1 to 3 mile range.

Of course, your mileage may vary. Wildly.

FEES

• STAGE RACE – $15 per person (includes one finger stick – accompanied kids are free)
• BEGINNER COURSE – $10 per person (not timed – accompanied kids are free)

You can buy your tickets online in advance with a credit/debit card, but cash onsite is always welcome! If you’re planning to attend and want to pay in cash, please go through checkout the normal way and select “Cash onsite” as your payment method. This functions as an RSVP and ensures your finger stick is programmed and your maps pre-printed and placed in the map exchange boxes on the course.

Walk-up registration is allowed, but you may need to carry all three maps with you from the start.
