Richmond Hill Park, located just minutes from downtown, is Asheville’s largest and only wooded public park. Boasting an open-forest disc golf course and myriad hiking trails down by the river, it’s a great place for orienteering with TONS of great control locations. The parking area is sunny but the majority of the place is shaded, and VERY GREEN. If you insist on bushwhacking in this place, in the summer, I very much recommend TALL SOCKS or LONG PANTS.
Three courses will be available to appeal to EVERYBODY, and by everybody I mean runners, hikers, walkers, shufflers, moseyers, saunterers, sightseers, lolligaggers, wheeler dealers and smooth O-perators. I also mean families and dogs and kids! Orienteering is 100% KID FRIENDLY and believe me, they love it!
This is a FREE activity (but, $5+ donations are very much appreciated.)
This is NOT a competition.
Courses will be Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Run as many courses as you like.
SCHEDULE
10:00am – 1:00pm – Open starts window – arrive ANY TIME in this window to begin your course
2:30pm – All participants must be off the course
3:00pm – Controls pickup (volunteers high-fived and sweaty-hugged)
The Start/Finish area will be in the parking lot as you pull into the park. As always, please respect those we share this wonderful space with, especially the disc golfers
