Almost two years to the day since Husqvarna Group’s execs christened Highland Lake Inn & Resort’s new orienteering map, IMPLAN had their own team building activity on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Flying in from around the country for their company retreat, they chose orienteering as their group activity. Judging from their energetic efforts, laughter when reviewing notable route “choices” afterwards, and warm, superlative thanks to me at the end, they made a wise decision.
“77 people? Done in 2 hours… and they want to paddle on the lake… and there’s only 6 boats? I can make that work, yes.”
I, of course, had no idea how I was going to make that work.
I did, though, and the details aren’t as important as the results, which seemed to be pretty great.
Speaking of which, Sue of Team IMPACT Divas will be glad to know that I corrected their team’s results after her phone glitched out towards the end of their hard effort. Their legitimate place in the standings is restored. *fist bump*

The most notable route had to be the paddling adventure of The 7 Dwarfs (sic), who saw parts of Madonna Lake that nobody else did. In their defense, there were no actual QR code tags on the water, just invisible GPS points. Control 96, which they missed (and gave others trouble), was just east of a big set of branches from a downed tree sticking up out of the water.
After cleaning everything up and picking up all the controls, I left there feeling completely energized. IMPLAN‘s employees were a treat to work with. After producing this team building activity for them, I feel like I’m part of their team now.
