MapRun Monday Spring Series 2023 Week 3 @ Oklawaha Brewing

The number of new faces at MapRun Mondays is skyrocketing, and out of 29 starters last night on a gorgeous, breezy evening in downtown Hendersonville, 11 were newcomers! It’s becoming a real challenge to meet and greet so many new folks, and if I missed you last night, forgive me!

The participation by families and especially the “not runners” is incredible, and it feels like MapRun Monday is appealing to a broad audience as designed! Keep telling your friends, and thank you for supporting the WNC Orienteering Club!

After 3 weeks of street orienteering, the evening’s and Series results are below.

Week 3 results.

Again, nobody opted for the 9Km Runner Scatter A (17 controls out of 20) course.

The B course was crushed by Alexandra and Cecily, and Val’s trials in the beginning of the race amounted to a stressier-than-usual MapRun after a lot of lost time. She was smiling as usual, though, and closed the place down with us.

The C course continues to be a hotbed of competition, deserving of closer analysis. At the top end of the results, Doug outran and outdistanced Sloan (a direct rivalry building) who chose to get the southern controls on Tom’s Hill, which were placed there precisely to confound whoever added the unnecessary climbing to their route. Jonathan and Abby and Jesse hustled at speed, and Sloan’s decision to climb the hill was, in my opinion, the difference between fourth and second place.

The Dynamic Dixons (working title) were back with their friends the Kowalaks, beating the pants off the Clydesdale Division (Scotty P and Pat) who were off drawing GPS pictures and taking necessary Hot Dog World selfies.

Val didn’t find Hot Dog World.

Note Sloan’s route expends a lot of energy climbing Tom’s Hill.
